► More info:
Thousands of people gathered in St. Peter’s Square for Pope Francis’ last public appearance before the 10th anniversary of his election as pope. Although he didn’t mention the anniversary, he was greeted with cheers from the crowd.
The Pope urged the pilgrims to participate in the penitential celebration of “24 hours for the Lord,” which he will preside over in a parish in Rome on Friday and Saturday. Last year, during the same celebration, he consecrated Russia and Ukraine to Our Lady for peace and the end of the invasion.
The initiative takes place on the Friday before the fourth Sunday of Lent and is marked by prayers for repentance and peace. Pope Francis traditionally speaks on the importance of repentance and is usually the first to go to confession.
