North Korea’s explosive COVID-19 outbreak has claimed at least six lives, and is affecting 350,000 more. The country shifted to what it calls a “maximum emergency anti-virus system”. A likely cause is the massive military parade for its army’s founding anniversary in April. Researchers said the “explosive spread of fever nationwide” is closely linked to the event, where thousands gathered in Pyongyang unmasked and with no rules for social distancing. More than 20,000 had prepared in the capital for two months before the event.
